So little is known of James Cooper at Redford or of Lt. Cooper who flew for the Army Air Force. His parents were both born in Indiana and they made their way to Illinois where Jim was born then on to Michigan where Jack was born.  Once in Detroit they first lived on Philadelphia where they rented for $55/month, then moved to Burgess where the house was only $40/mo. The war found them in a lovely house on Cooley, behind the Methodist church on Grand River.
They flew a B-17 Flying Fortress #42-97724 pilot Capt Maj Doyle L. Russell, co-pilot Jim Cooper. It was a crew of 10. It was part of the 463rd BG called ‘The Swoose Group’. They flew a mission to Munich, Germany and on the return were hit by flak and ditched in the Adriatic Sea. They were lost at 45 18N, 13 12E, over the north Adriatic. Body nonrecoverable, no further pursuit. MACR 5852.

He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
