WILLIAM D. RICHARDSON b. Sept 7, 1925 Mich d. May 31, 1945 Died Non Battle England
Sgt 16130658 Army

Buried: Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit

Parents: William Elbert & Helen Alice (Milner)
Siblings: Gerald Wayne

Father William was born 1898 in Gouverneur, New York. His family moved to Detroit before 1920, continuing a long tradition of settlement in Michigan by people from New York state. The worked in a paper mill and auto factory. Helen was born in Michigan 1903. When they married in 1923 in Detroit both worked as clerks. William went on to become a clerk at Edison Co. They are also buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery with their son.

They had a lovely house on 15505 Coyle, built 1929. Young William graduated from Redford in June 1943 and enlisted in the army the same year. There are varying death dates for William D., but this is the date on his grave. An article in the school newspaper ‘The Outpost’ provides the most information: his rank, enlistment date, graduation date and that he died in an airplane accident. The Outpost published a column called Gold Stars updating information about  servicemen. And there is his gravestone which reads “Dear Son...Killed in England”.

Nor is he listed as a graduate in the January 1943 yearbook (June 1943 not available). It seems there should be something more...
