A family all born in Michigan, including the Christine’s two younger sisters who lived with the family in 1920. John worked as a foreman in an auto plant. He raised his family in a neighborhood near University of Detroit.  Summers were spent in Marine City where they had family.

Ralph graduated from Redford in Jan 1934 and worked as a shipping clerk for Ford Motor Co. Among the first to registerefor the the draft in Oct 1940 he was 6’ tall, 185 lbs with brown hair (eyes described on his draft registration as ‘other’).

The 10th Armored Division entered France through the port of Cherbourg Sept 23, 1944 and put in a month of training at Teurtheville, France before entering combat. They were under General George S. Patton. After leaving Teurtheville Oct 25 they moved to Mars-la-Tour where they entered combat Nov 2. They advanced eastward along the Moselle River Valley but were diverted to the north when the Germans launched the Battle of the Bulge.


On Dec 13, 1944 a memorial mass was held for Ralph in Marine City.
